Kevin and Charlie bemoan the irrationality of gun control advocates, faced with a case in which, clearly, concealed carry worked to prevent a mass shooting.

Once again, they fail to grasp that when leftists take a political position, the purpose is often (usually?) to display their virtue, not propose a workable solution in the real world.

Furthermore, they fail to understand that left and right are operating on different ethical systems.

Rightists are traditionalists in ethics, as in most things. Leftists are utilitarians.

Rightists, like Kevin and Charlie, judge a statement on whether it is true, that is, how well it reflects reality.

Leftists, as utilitarians, judge a statement on whether or not it promotes their goals. For them, a false statement that promotes their goals is ethical; a true statement that hampers their goals is unethical.

Once you understand these two principles, leftist discourse becomes much easier to understand.

Later in the podcast, Charlie is stunned by the “gall” of former Obama official Ben Rhodes criticizing this drone attack, when he spent years justifying every such attack ordered by Obama, even targeting American citizens for execution without trial.

See above: Ben Rhodes is an ethical utilitarian.

    These are interesting considerations.

If all guns were somehow – magically – eliminated (and somehow prevented from being invented again in the future) then yes, it would never be necessary to shoot a SHOOTER to prevent mass SHOOTINGS, etc.

But what about the crazy people who go after a crowd with a knife for example, which has happened in places around the world? Who wants to go after someone like that, with another knife?

How are women supposed to protect themselves from generally much-larger men? With a knife?

Killing the guy responsible for much if not most of Iran’s terrorist activities over the past 40 years or more, seems like a good way of decreasing our involvement with them. The less terrorism they commit, the less involved we need to be.

And Hezbollah hasn’t been waiting until NOW to send missiles into Israel.

It sounds like Charles C.W. definitely needs to do some reading, as he indicated.
